If this messaging is working to bring in young people, then great. But doubtful it will work with middle aged and older Democrats that she needs to win. For the most part, older Democrats I know think some of what the party supports is weird. Remember the political appointed bald guy with red lipstick that stole ladies suitcases from airports? Remember the drag queens and trans influencers on the White House lawn and one went topless? These things are weird by definition. Calling women birthing people is weird. So for older voters, I think the messaging should call Trump what he is, convicted felon, rapist, insurectionist, etc. Just calling Trump weird actually downplays how dangerous he is and his administration would be.
I am middle age and my family is old and trust me. We've been thinking these people are weird for a very long time
+1 I'm in my mid-40s and my parents/in-laws are in their late 70s and we all agree that Vance and Trump are weird, and that the cult-like devotion of their followers (taping maxi pads to their ears?) is also weird. Remember that most of Gen X spent our critical early years in the Free to Be You and Me era, and that today's Boomers are the ones who raised us. They thought it was great that Sesame Street taught us about racial integration, public transportation, and breastfeeding on-screen. They gave us gender neutral toys and dressed us in matching corduroy overalls with our brothers. They are also from the generation where women died from lack of access to reproductive healthcare and couldn't get checkbooks until they were in their 20s without their dad or husband to sign off. They don't want to go back, and neither do we.
