STA and Prep are far more similar than Landon academically. The only thing Landon and Prep have in common is that they are both stronger athletically than STA. Facts, they're important.
I have always thought STA had the stronger academic persona amongst the IAC schools. I have also always been under the belief Landon and Prep are very similar when it comes to academic reputation - one happens to be Catholic, the other is not. Not trying to start a pissing match either.
Yes, STA is the strongest but Prep is right behind it and very similar. I would say STA and Prep are the same at the top and middle, but it’s the bottom group at Prep that might have a wider range than STA. Landon is one tier below. STA and Prep are also very sought-after and have fairly low acceptance rates. Landon is popular, but not at the same level as STA and Prep. Landon has been known to still have spots available in certain grades in the summer months, hence the emails they send out announcing they have availability and trying to recruit boys for these open spots. STA average SAT score is 1410 Prep average SAT score is 1386 Landon average SAT score is 1320 Prep faculty with advanced degrees 85% STA faculty with advanced degrees 80% Landon faculty with advanced degrees 70% Prep ranked #1 for lowest acceptance rate for private schools in Maryland. 41% of Prep’s 2021 class attended top 40 USNWR national universities. 33% of Landon’s 2021 class…. Facts are facts.
Except 58% of Landon graduates matriculated at the top 50 USNWR National Universities and Liberal Arts Colleges. 41% of Landon Students are POC. Landon does not have a dormitory. I suspect Prep's website hasn't been updated in a while because they still list their wrestling team as tops in the area, which hasn't been true since shortly after Kubic left. Landon's average class size 14, Prep's average class size 16. The Lowest Acceptance Rate is because of their boarding program. Lots and Lots of kids apply to their boarding program, and they can only let in a few. I will admit Landon's admissions were less competitive for a while, but that is no longer true. There were no new sophomores in the past year, the yield has also been higher than expected in the past few years. The SAT is far from the only measure of academic rigor. Prep admits kids in 9th grade. Landon admits them in 3rd grade. You have no idea what a third grader's SAT's are going to look like in six years. Last time I saw Prep's Matriculation list, it was similar to Landon's, likely a little worse, but I am giving Prep a little benefit of the doubt on their kids who could have gone to more competitive schools but elected to go to BC, Georgetown, and Holy Cross. ND is an elite National U, so no loss there.
