I agree with you. I think Waterford used his power to buy June’s silence with seeing Hannah. Surely Aunt Lydia and Gilead wouldn’t support an unnesscary ceremony on a pregnant woman, even if it was to progress the labor along, she isn’t overdue yet. Then, because it was all hastily arranged, the other district’s Gaurdians saw the activity at the abandoned home and they don’t have to answer to an unidientied driver. [/quote]

The rape was about power and control.  Serena lost control and felt degraded after Waterford beat her and wanted revenge even though the actions were due to her own behavior.  Waterford wasn't going to beat June pregnant, but he clearly could find a way to rationalize raping her.  I read one article that said he felt guilty for raping her which is why he allowed her to see Hannah.  We'll find out..[/quote]
