I agree with you. I think Waterford used his power to buy June’s silence with seeing Hannah. Surely Aunt Lydia and Gilead wouldn’t support an unnesscary ceremony on a pregnant woman, even if it was to progress the labor along, she isn’t overdue yet. Then, because it was all hastily arranged, the other district’s Gaurdians saw the activity at the abandoned home and they don’t have to answer to an unidientied driver.

This makes sense, especially given the promo for next week’s episode.

The rape was about power and control. Serena lost control and felt degraded after Waterford beat her and wanted revenge even though the actions were due to her own behavior. Waterford wasn't going to beat June pregnant, but he clearly could find a way to rationalize raping her. I read one article that said he felt guilty for raping her which is why he allowed her to see Hannah. We'll find out..

And what’s going to happen when this baby (who probably won’t be born in the Waterford house) is just like her birth mother June.

You know what will happen.. they will hit, spank and beat the kid into submission or sent the child away or if a girl, marry her off very young. Funny, they aren't worried about genetics which makes no sense not to do IVF with their own genetics.

I wonder if his wife really got pregnant by someone else, like their driver or Eye?? And he (AA husband) just thinks it's his biological child when it's really not?

Why would the baby be darker?

The rape scene was by far the worst.

I also didn’t think Nick got hit, but they carried him away. And I could totally see the commander setting the whole thing up.

Finally - why the heck didn’t Nick just shoot the other eye and take Hannah and head north? They had a 3 hour window before they were do home. That could’ve gotten them pretty far into Vermont before anyone reported them missing.

I've always wondered why the cars don't apparently have tracking devices on them. Nick was able to transport her before...

Do they trust the drivers and Eyes that much?

Did anyone catch the strange look on Waterford’s face when interacting with this guy? At first I thought it was because he was African American but it seemed to be more about the fact they didn’t need a handmaid and had their own baby biologically. Was Waterford jealous? Annoyed? Angry?

He got promoted into the job Waterford wanted.

Yes, obviously jealous and emasculated.

I think it the book they said that there was some sort of accident in germ warfare experimentation that made a lot of the top governmental men sterile, in addition to all the bad environmental stuff generally. So the commanders were especially likely to be infertile.
