why did ASA stop putting tryout results online?
why was it ever posted. Only those who participated in tryouts should be notified of the results. Why should the results be posted to strangers where your child's first initial and last name is revealed. No other club posts this publicly, I believe.
Avoids the game playing that you see at other clubs with staggered offers, revised offers, etc. Transparency. Was a good approach.
Agreed. It beats the incessant chatter around the campfire about who made what team before tryouts have even finished. I have seen parents asking other kids whether they made a specific team, which is completely out of bounds. I have told my son not to talk about his offer or anybody else’s before the process is complete. I think they should all post and nobody should talk about offers and acceptances until posts go up. The info will get out anyway, but will do so with less gossip among parents and stress among kids. The only downside of this system would be having to accept before knowing whether particular kids had remained on or made the team.
Really? In Arlington? My kids are much older now, but as soon as the website list went out--the gossip and bashing started. Talking about which kid didn't make it, which got demoted, so-n-so never should have made this team or that. You could also see who did not accept offers and which kid got moved up into that spot---which created even more gossip. I think it's a good idea they don't post it. These are very young kids, not HS kids reading the roster off of the bulletin board. One year my oldest found out which team she made at school from other kids before we even had a chance to tell her. Other Clubs also use the placement (though it has no bearing in actual talent) for placement if a kid goes to a tryout at their Club. It's really nobody's business but the player's. And, after all, aren't these younger years supposed to be about player development anyways? And a parent asking a kid who isn't their OWN child what team they made---WTF?!?!! I think this is what somebody meant by 'intense' in the other post. Badge of honor for the parent and all that...
