We missed a few tryouts in Fairfax County and wondering if it is worth reaching out or if teams are full.

BRYC boys' tryouts are still underway - see http://www.brycsoccer.com/boys-tryouts

If you have a good player, clubs will find a place for them. I have honestly never seen a talented kid (boy or girl) who could help a team be turned away.

This may have already been addressed, but yes, Spirit has made offers to the existing players it wishes to keep.

Everyone's info is gathered and sent. There were team get togethers over summer when the kids were small.

And, people could see who lived nearby to arrange carpools.

I really don't see the need for posting those names online because it wouldn't even have the contact information you want.

Makes perfect sense, achieves the objective I identified, and is not done at our club. I agree this is better than posting online.

why was it ever posted. Only those who participated in tryouts should be notified of the results. Why should the results be posted to strangers where your child's first initial and last name is revealed. No other club posts this publicly, I believe.

Avoids the game playing that you see at other clubs with staggered offers, revised offers, etc.

Transparency. Was a good approach.

Agreed. It beats the incessant chatter around the campfire about who made what team before tryouts have even finished. I have seen parents asking other kids whether they made a specific team, which is completely out of bounds. I have told my son not to talk about his offer or anybody else’s before the process is complete. I think they should all post and nobody should talk about offers and acceptances until posts go up. The info will get out anyway, but will do so with less gossip among parents and stress among kids. The only downside of this system would be having to accept before knowing whether particular kids had remained on or made the team.

Really? In Arlington? My kids are much older now, but as soon as the website list went out--the gossip and bashing started. Talking about which kid didn't make it, which got demoted, so-n-so never should have made this team or that. You could also see who did not accept offers and which kid got moved up into that spot---which created even more gossip.

I think it's a good idea they don't post it. These are very young kids, not HS kids reading the roster off of the bulletin board. One year my oldest found out which team she made at school from other kids before we even had a chance to tell her. Other Clubs also use the placement (though it has no bearing in actual talent) for placement if a kid goes to a tryout at their Club.

It's really nobody's business but the player's. And, after all, aren't these younger years supposed to be about player development anyways?

And a parent asking a kid who isn't their OWN child what team they made---WTF?!?!! I think this is what somebody meant by 'intense' in the other post. Badge of honor for the parent and all that...

Thanks, and fair points. It really should be only the business of the players family. . To be clear. I was simply proposing that teams post rosters after acceptances are complete, not offers. Again, all the gossip and chatter about who makes ca doesn’t occurs with or without posting rosters. Posting rosters actually gets good information to parents, who can then work with other parents to get their kids together over the summer. Posting offers, I agree, would be nuts. Talk about making kids feel like second or third choice. Good grief. Completely unnecessary and serves no obvious purpose. Anybody requiring a Plan B should be thinking about that before any tryouts begin. And I don’t want to see what my kid would be like in the next rounds of tryouts if they were aware they were actually on the bubble. They should assume that at all times in any event.

Actually they should not be thinking about bubbles and team placement at all at that age--talk about stressing out a little kid who should be having fun---but, yes, I know that is how it is in the travel soccer world. It is 'team-centric', not 'player-centric'. Sigh. Such a poor model for player development and it's been around for 30 some years....

Not all this chatter is about bragging or something negative. My son is trying out at places and I know families at these places that are also trying out. Once an offer comes out, the parents share so we can prepare. If they get offers before my son, I need to start thinking about a plan B or C. If you just wait until the process is over, it may be too late to find a better option.

This scenario sounds like you are friends with the parent. Rolling offers would not be posted. So I don't see what exactly you want. The online thing wouldn't help you in this situation because all offers (with the exception of a superstar) are made via email for everyone. They used to be posted after the teams were lined up (but before kids actually accepted).
