Emerald is also a known girls name, and the Spanish version -- Esmerelda -- is quite popular as well. When I was pregnant, I tried to talk my DH into the name Amaranth, which is a plant/flower that has special meaning to me, and also a place name. I decided against it when a friend pointed out that if we called her Ama for short, it would be confused with amah, the Chinese word for grandmother. But I still think it's pretty.[/quote]
