Yep, name of a main character in one of the most famous books of the 20th century. One of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughters is named Scout.

Definitely an uncommon name, though does not seem that unusual to me due to the popularity of names like Ruby and Pearl. Emerald is also a known girls name, and the Spanish version -- Esmerelda -- is quite popular as well.

When I was pregnant, I tried to talk my DH into the name Amaranth, which is a plant/flower that has special meaning to me, and also a place name. I decided against it when a friend pointed out that if we called her Ama for short, it would be confused with amah, the Chinese word for grandmother. But I still think it's pretty.

That's not that unusual? Aspen is in the top 200, and Winter ranks around 300. They aren't super popular but I wouldn't consider that weirdly unusual. For comparison's sake, Aspen has a similar popularity to the name Molly, and Winter to the name Kendall.
