Mclean really sucks. There are kids practicing on one of the ECNL team's that aren't even part of the club nor have they paid to be part of the team. Not only that but before practices and games a COVID form in the game changer app needs to be filled out for each player and obviously the kids who are practicing with team that aren't officially on the team aren't submitting the form. Also, these kids that aren't part of the team are participating in club scrimmages taking playing time away from actually kids who have paid their dues for the year. I think it's really the coach who should be taking responsibility for this as they are the one who is orchestrating all of this. I'm sure other parents on the team feel the same way but they don't want to speak up cause they're scared the coach will take it out on their child. Something has to be done about this and I'm really pissed that this is being allowed to occur.
Hmmm... either you are on our team or McLean does this with all their teams. It pisses me off too. We have 19 girls on the team and don't need any "guests" coming to the scrimmages to take play time. And we don't need any additional players. We already have one more than can be rostered.
Over-rostering is a hedge against injuries (and COVID, I suppose), and is an unfortunate byproduct of the pay to play system. You're not going to avoid that one, it is everywhere. There's a difference between giving opportunities to players in the club to "practice up" and/or "play up" with the top team, and guest players coming in from outside the club. The former is healthy club practice, and the latter, while unpleasant, is a byproduct of the elite level. An ECNL club will always seek to deepen the pool and play the best players. If you don't like that, and you think it should be purely pay to play, equal time, and all that, then you will be increasingly frustrated as the girls get older and the best players get an increased share of playing time. It's not rec soccer.
