Sta has a bunch of really good 26 and 27’s. They will be in the mix in 2 years.
If by “in the mix” you mean middle of the pack, then maybe. But STA will never have the depth of quality that the more established lacrosse powers have.
They will have a shot. They have a top fogo, the best 27 goalie in the region and several other top kids mixed in.
STA had "a shot" with the 2023 class. They were the best class STA has had in a very long time and they came in last in the IAC. They had good players in many key positions and it still didn't matter. STA lacks overall depth, strength, athleticism, and skill. The IAC is down big this year and still STA is second to last in the league, having lost to everyone except SSSA, who they play next week. To compete in the IAC STA will have to do more than just have a "bunch" of good 26 and 27s. The top teams all have good 26 and 27s.
DMV talent is way down this season. Best player in the DMV is injured, FO is down, last season the DMV had the best goalie class ever, D is down and the teams are just not ranking with the national programs. Lets hope 26 and 27 classes track better
Agree that DMV lacrosse is down this year but Landon is clearly not and in a league of their own this spring. IL lacrosse has them ranked at #8 in the country for a reason.
While this seemed to surprise some, it shouldn't have been a shocker. Landon was never down down (for that kind of decline, look at EHS, StA, and SSSA this season), they were relatively down and both Prep and SJC had some historically good DMV teams. Landon was undefeated in 2017, lost to a great Bullis squad (Shellenberger dominated the league that year) in the IAC finals in 2018, remained relevant with probably their weakest roster ever and a coaching change in 2019, had the lost 2020 season, shortened 2021 where they were the third best team in the area behind SJC and Prep, then had to absorb a second coaching change with the weird departure of the alum who followed Boardley. The last two years after their second coaching change in three seasons, they've been gradually building around this senior class and have improved significantly within each season which speaks to their coaching. This year it has all come together. Look at the Gonzaga game earlier this week. They got jumped on by a more athletic roster, coaching staff made adjustments and their seniors led the way to a dramatic win after trailing big on the road. Bummer that half the league is down, and it sucks that they don't play SJC, but the Bears look poised to run through the DMV and end up two one-goal games away from a perfect season.
