Catherine is definitely mentally ill. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia (at least), years before the disappearance. She was hospitalized for mental illness and was supposed to be on medication and supervised around the children. I'm the PP, meant to also mention that people think she's competent to withstand trial. I don't think anyone is suggesting there's no mental illness at all.
