I have a little inside knowledge on this one. Catherine is definitely mentally ill. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia (at least), years before the disappearance. She was hospitalized for mental illness and was supposed to be on medication and supervised around the children.

I'm the PP, meant to also mention that people think she's competent to withstand trial. I don't think anyone is suggesting there's no mental illness at all. Just that she's playing it up as much as she can.

In any case, tragic.

I'm also listening to the Missing Maura Murray podcast - I am one of those people who think she was disoriented by the crash, was worried about a DUI, slipped into the woods, tucked herself into a hollow or small space to stay warm and wait out the police, and inadvertently died and her remains never found. I had never heard about Maura Murray until I read this and now I am obsessed. Wow.

I watched the disappeared episode on her on the ID network. I noticed that quite a few missing people on the show "Maura" included IMO seem to have " snapped " and had a mental break. I wish someone would explain what that looks like because to me it appears that the missing people that snapped on the show seemed to have almost just ran themselves to death. They simply walked away and kept walking until they fell to the ground and died. At least that is how I process what happened to so many of those missing people that had mental breakdowns before they went missing.


There is a similar case in Fort Bragg, California. Kristi Krebbs most likely had a mental break and went missing after running off the road.

I worked in an office on the top floor of the Watergate on 9/11. I saw the plane flying low where it never should have been (I'd become familiar with the flight path to Reagan). Then I saw it crash. It was simply horrifying.


If anyone feels like crying, read about the DCPS middle school students and their teachers who were on AA flight 77.

+1 I'm curious if his death was accidental or premeditated and what was the relationship with the men.


I always thought one of them made a pass at him and a relatively benign situation turned ugly.

If you Google "AA77 teachers" you'll see links to the passenger manifest for that flight. so many of the passengers were DCPS teachers and students on their way to (or from, can't recall) the Channel Islands in California as part of a National Geographic sponsored research study of sorts. That whole passenger list is really horrifying and sad.
