I used to take my children to Philly fairly often 10-20 years ago, and we enjoyed it very much. Went back earlier this year, and while the usual tourist places are fine, once you go beyond them, it is very bleak. There is a menacing vibe to the city that wasn't there before. I didn't feel safe.
