Please check the facts before you post. Ignorance is the most pathetic thing on this thread; it wins by a hair over those insecure posters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercollegiate_Football_Association "On November 23, 1876, representatives from Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Columbia met at the Massasoit House hotel in Springfield, Massachusetts to standardize a new code of rules based on the rugby game." So yes, even though the term "Ivy" did not come from "IV," these four schools were the first precursor to the Ivy League.
Yes, but two years before that (in 1874) Yale, Columbia, Princeton, and Rutgers had already met in an initial attempt to standardize the rules. So is Rutgers an Ivy League school? :-) Snooty Harvard refused to attend the conference and kept playing by their own "Boston" rules. For matches against other universities, they ended up playing against McGill instead. So perhaps Harvard and McGill are really the only two original members of the Ivy League? :-) In any case, clearly the top 10 universities in the USA must include both Rutgers and McGill (although everyone know the absolute #1 University in the US is actually UC Davis) [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1874_Harvard_vs._McGill_football_game ]
