Another VLC parent here and could have written this same thing.

Many kids pick D3 over D1 and even not at the highest level they are being recruited at because of their own reasons/academic goals/school vibe etc.  I'd venture to say that most of the kids on VLC had multiple schools interested but many of the kids look online at the university rep/majors offered/lax rep/coach rep, talk to others, etc, consider what their family says about costs and so on, and don't even end up pursuing many of them - I know this was the case with our DS and others on the team.  Most seem to have narrowed it down to 3 and made some visits.

When it comes to college, kids really have to think about how they want/see lacrosse fitting into their lives and make their decisions accordingly. This can mean they don't chase what others may see as the "golden" ticket.[/quote]
