What year are you talking about? 21s? Maybe kids quit? 22s had little turnover and weren't that strong.

This commentary is comical. If they made cuts, lets say it was because they had a "less that stellar win loss record" (you've already been commented about their 2020 commitments), how is it smoke and mirrors to have tryouts and replace kids that either weren't skilled enough or other kids came to tryouts that were more skilled? Isn't that the purpose of EVERY tryout? Every team should be looking to either affirm their current talent level or upgrade where they can. VLC, MadLax, Next Level and every other team should be doing that and if not they have to realize the others are.

Across the board, across the country at the top programs and the bottom programs you will have teams that just don't perform like others. It's nearly impossible to make blanket statements about any of these clubs. VLC wasn't all less than stellar in win/loss, though some teams were. Madlax doesn't just have a coach that sends nasty emails to and about a player, though it happens. This is lacrosse, it's not life. It's not what most of our kids are going to do for a living. Enjoy the time, cheer for your kids and have fun. Life's too short. If your kid got cut (which is what I suspect from the original poster), reassess whether or not he had a good tryout and either work in the offseason and try out again or move on to another team. There is a spot for everyone and getting cut/not making the team isn't the end of the world. Michael Jordan didn't make his high school varsity team until he was a junior. He had to not make it as a sophomore to rededicate himself to his passion.

I would suggest that any interested parent attend the VLC or any club's recruiting night. I think the club provided very open and honest information from coaches, college coaches, and parents who have been there. The club is clearly not "selling" the college dream. I will say that no matter what your son decides to do, I disagree that they should "quit" VLC or any club going into the last year. Playing with a club you have been playing with for a few seasons and playing in tournaments is the reason to play club lacrosse. Just because a kid is recruited to play college also does not guarantee that he will. Life is short, play it because it is fun.

Another VLC parent here and could have written this same thing.

Many kids pick D3 over D1 and even not at the highest level they are being recruited at because of their own reasons/academic goals/school vibe etc. I'd venture to say that most of the kids on VLC had multiple schools interested but many of the kids look online at the university rep/majors offered/lax rep/coach rep, talk to others, etc, consider what their family says about costs and so on, and don't even end up pursuing many of them - I know this was the case with our DS and others on the team. Most seem to have narrowed it down to 3 and made some visits.

When it comes to college, kids really have to think about how they want/see lacrosse fitting into their lives and make their decisions accordingly. This can mean they don't chase what others may see as the "golden" ticket.

For the 2021 rising juniors, at this stage if a player/parent/coach is being realistic and objective, it’s pretty clear whether a player is D1 recruitable, D3 recruitabe, or nonrecruitable. If you are in that 3rd category, there is no real reason for a player to continue on. Better bet is to spend more time on school or another extracurricular, or leave for a less competitive club to have fun with the buddies you grew up with playing rec ball.
