This used to bother me, but not anymore. Teachers are free to leave employment just like anyone else. If you want them to stay, then treat them better. [/quote]

Agree that teachers deserve to be treated well and with the utmost respect, I always drill that into my own kids, however two wrongs don't make a right. Quitting with 2 weeks to go when they have had many months to look for other options seems unethical.[/quote]

How is it unethical? 
They may just be starting that new job in August, so it’s not unethical - it’s just not convenient for FCPS. My company does most of its hiring in the last summer/fall and the least in the winter.[/quote]

As a teacher who left this year, finding a new job was extremely difficult. I left In July and felt bad about breaking contract but when you get offered a new job outside of education it’s kind of a “now or never” situation.[/quote]

I guess nowadays with HR being so flaky and ghosting people you never know but I would think if there is a good chance that you won't be returning, it's better to do it asap instead of waiting with 2 weeks to go.[/quote]

What commitment? Technically, we are not employed over the summer. Our employment begins on that first day of PD. A commitment has not been broken.[/quote]

And it’s better for a teacher to quit now than quit into the school year. It sucks for admin because there is nobody coming behind to fill the position. Pre teacher shortage some first year teacher struggling to find a job would be happy to come fill the spot and everything would have worked out. Now the new teachers aren’t struggling to find work so there is nobody left when these situations happen.[/quote]
