For those criticizing Taylor during Grammys and football… To me she appears as someone who is living in the moment, taking it all in, and enjoying it all. Living in the moment is something that takes most decades and age to figure out. That was Oprah’s send off when she ended her talk show “live in the moment”. And I’m not a Swiftie.
There is living in the moment and then there is immersing yourself in the main character role. Those are two different things. Just because you are in the moment, doesn’t mean you are so into yourself you don’t take anyone else’s feelings or reactions into account with your behavior.
If she can't be the main character in winning an award, and then breaking a Grammy record for that award, when can she? I didn't think she was rude at all. Celine Dion was there to give out an award, not steal the award winner's thunder. That was the Grammy award winner's moment, not someone who's out of the public eye most of the time. I don't think Miley had to suck up to Mariah Carey either. They're presenters. If they want to be fawned over, put out new material and get nominated and be your own main character. Don't try to steal from others. P.S. I don't actually think Mariah Carey or Celine Dion gives two craps about whether they were fawned over. They had their many, many moments in the sun. They were likely just happy to be there.
This is a misunderstanding of what awards shows are for. They are only partially about recognizing the "best" work of the year (where best is highly subjective and often very political). They are industry gatherings and they serve a lot of purposes. For the recording academy and the industry as a whole, the event is absolutely as much about bringing out people like Mariah and Celine and giving them moments of recognition and honor, as it is about recognizing Miley and Taylor for their recent work. I don't think Mariah and Celine expect to be "fawned over" exactly, but why would they show up at all if they didn't expect some love and respect there? Celine has a debilitating illness that likely made getting ready for and showing up to that show pretty challenging for her. It's not like she's doing it for money or to get her name out there. She definitely didn't make the effort so Taylor Swift could snatch a Grammy out of her hands and then turn her back on her. It was rude.
They show up to stay relevant. It's not the award recipients job to keep them relevant. I just disagree that it was rude.
You're in the minority.
