Jesus. What do you do with a child like this? Is this nature? Is the child doomed to be a psychopath? Did the parents cause this? Why haven’t the parents’ identity been released? Shouldn’t they be charged like the parents of the Michigan shooter? I get the shooter is a minor, but I don’t like that the parents aren’t facing consequences for allowing their psycho kid to access a gun. What can we as parents do to keep these dangerous kids away from our own children. If this continues then those who can afford it will leave for private schools since privates can choose who to admit.
As a society we don't want to admit that some people are born bad eggs. Maybe they'll wait until they're in their teens or young adulthood before they do something dangerous, or maybe if the conditions are ripe they'll harm others much earlier, like this kid. We want to think that every child is special and can be saved, but it's a false premise. I don't know what the answer is, but we need some kind of universal testing and plan for kids who don't meet the requirements to safely interact with others.
This. We cause our own issues by sticking to a 1950d outdated view of family and childhood. Therapy needs to be improved for children. Current therapy always lays blame at the adults so manipulative and higher functioning children can easily escape consequences and learning cause and effect. It needs to be easier for parents to get state funded inpatient mental health care without having them surrender their children. Some children may not be able to live in their home environment full time. The number of kids who fit this profile is small but as we can see even just one child can lead to tragic consequences. I think that what is needed is for schools to allow teachers to physically restrain students and make laws in line with that so teachers aren’t under constant threat of being arrested and/or sued. Laws should be put in place for stiff penalties for school administrators who don’t take action when teachers have identified a violent student. Also I don’t think all children should be given access to a free local public education but instead change the law to say an appropriate education in a facility that can meet needs and it doesn’t need to be local
