I simply cannot fathom how people who call themselves democrats are going to vote for a white republican over an African American democrat. And then they'll look at themselves in a mirror and tell themselves they aren't racist. Unbelievable
No, quite the opposite. Those who are only voting for a candidate because of his race, e.g. those who will vote for Baker or Jealous only because they ARE black, are the racists ones. You believe that your form of racism is acceptable because you vote for the minority, but if you are only voting for a candidate because of his race, then you ARE racist. If, however, you are voting for a candidate who's platform and results you happen to agree with, regardless of his race, you are not racist. As a resident of PG County, I feel that Rushern Baker has done a good job with our county, but I also think that Hogan has done well for the state. I will continue to support Hogan, but would be willing to support Baker in future elections.
So just so we're all clear, according to you: democrats voting for white republican = not racist. democrats voting for AA democrat = racist. That's how things line up in crazy-world, huh? Ooooooooookay.
No. The point is not WHO you are voting for, but WHY you are voting for them. A person who votes for a candidate merely because of the color of his/her skin is racist. A person voting for a candidate because of his values, is not. The first PP above was making a false causality in calling voters racist simply because they vote for a white Republican over an African American Democrat. I was pointing out how wrong that PP was in making accusations focused on the race rather than the reason for voting for a candidate.
