I don’t think anyone thinks first trimester abortions are done for extreme medical reasons. Those make up the majority of abortions (I’m assuming you already know this).
The NIPT is done at nine weeks, so plenty of people terminate very wanted pregnancies to prevent having a child who suffers from extreme medical issues.

Abortion wasn’t politicized before the way it is now. Sure Catholics opposed it but it wasn’t a core tenet of right wing ideology until later
Pre-1980's Catholics practiced what they preached. They also didn't impose their religion on to others the way the Evangelicals are now.
There is scant evidence this has happened due to anyone's religion. Many people believe abortion is murder and they have concerns with murder for many reasons, some moral and some practical.

But if Republicans want to agree on a ban at the point of viabilty except in cases of threat to mother’s health or where the fetus has issues incompatible with life then I think a consensus could be reached.
Dp- also this girl found out she was pregnant 2 weeks before her 28 week abortion. And the linked article makes it clear this girl was the anomaly. It’s filled with women who made choices because of healthcare.
Right; like I said, it’s very rare. But I can’t believe it was even allowed, 4 weeks past the typical viability cut-off, for a healthy fetus. Even if the mom was at risk, you’d typically just deliver a 28-weeker.

People say this, but most of them also want exceptions for rape and incest. If you are okay with abortion if the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest, then you don't truly believe it's the same as murdering a 3 day old infant.

In some circumstances it is justified. Why is that? Because of the pregnant woman’s own life and well being. This decision says she has no such rights. Constitution says otherwise. Roe is good law.
