+1 Maternal mortality rates have also been on the rise in Texas over the past two decades, increasing from 10.3 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1999 to 21.9 in 2019.

Also in Texas, infant deaths rose by 227 in 2022 under the abortion ban compared to 2021, in part because of unviable pregnancies forced to be carried to term.

It always has been. Texas has been forced birth for a while but as a PP noted with stats, their mortality numbers are crap. What have they, allegedly a “pro life” state, done to fix that? Nothing.

The pro-life folk imagined a post-Roe world where there would be lots of healthy white babies born of women who didn't want their children and would give them to parents waiting desperately to adopt. The never thought about problem pregnancies, babies born addicted to drugs, babies born with multiple birth defects who would live very short, very expensive, very unpleasant lives, and they never, ever thought about brown babies who languish waiting for adoption. And they never considered the physical or emotional costs to the mothers of all these unwanted pregancies. Nor did they consider children made pregnant by rapists, and women facing death because of a pregnancy they need to abort.

I think they see those languishing. Lack and brown babies and think— that’s the solution to having low paid workers in this country. I think they see women desperate and scared and think— that’s right, not so busy running for office and voting now are you?[/quote]
