Montgomery County accounts for 35.2% (8339/23635) of the undergraduate population at UMD, compared to only being 18% of the total population of Maryland. MoCo isn't being shorted with respect to attendance at UMD.[/quote]

Now do it for kids with sats over 1500, or kids who got 5s on AP Calc BC.  I bet McPS is being shortchanged with respect to high stats kids.  Families in this state who care about education often move to McPS so we have a disproportionate number of highly qualified kids.  We moved here from PG for instance. [/quote]

If there are 85 kids all with the same stats and activities, they will only take so many from each school so going to a w school where your kids are just one of many is a disadvantage. We’ve said it for years. Why is it a surprise?   [/quote]

It’s not a surprise now because I’ve seen it for years but it’s certainly something I didn’t know when we moved here 15 years ago for the schools.  I also just think it’s wrong when a state is taking many of its best students and telling them that they should go to a different state (and spend more) for college.  [/quote]
