It sucks to get cut and it stings to get cut for an 8th grader but you were probably not going to make varsity anyway. Better to find out now than at the end of your junior year. I happen to agree with you that 8th graders shouldn't be playing high school (except maybe freshman, maybe) but the coach is trying to develop that 8th grader and the rules allow him to do it.
