13-year-olds shouldn’t be on a high school JV team when there are only 12 spots.

And shame on the coaches for enabling this.

Is this even legal? Are they going to sit out their senior year?

SP.

Oh never mind. It's JV.

It sucks to get cut and it stings to get cut for an 8th grader but you were probably not going to make varsity anyway.
Better to find out now than at the end of your junior year.
I happen to agree with you that 8th graders shouldn't be playing high school (except maybe freshman, maybe) but the coach is trying to develop that 8th grader and the rules allow him to do it.

And to the genius above claiming there are parents just throwing money at the programs please come back and explain why the two main baseball programs in Arlington and Alexandria just axed two levels?

HINT= people stopped joining.

Club baseball seems ot be increasing in this area. NVTBL has more teams every year. It's starting to affect little league.

Those who complain that an 8th grader took their kid's spot on the HS team are likely unaware of their kid's skills and potential. They need to brag that their kid is a HS athlete, so they are mad at the coach for following the rules that don't benefit their family.

There are no formal rules except WIN.

Well, that and that you only get four years on varsity, so if the 8th grader isn't going to private school for 9th, don't put them on varsity...

They waive the eighth grade year, even if they’re on varsity so they can get five years

I wonder how many will find out they can't play anymore as seniors and be surprised
