Here is the latest TikTok university sponsored event https://nypost.com/2023/11/25/metro/jewish-teacher-hides-in-queens-high-school-as-students-riot/?utm_campaign=nypost&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
Here is video from the lockdown. I feel bad for the teacher who had to flee. [twitter]https://twitter.com/sfmcguire79/status/1728470315850780964[/twitter]
Will any of these kids be disciplined?
I’m not supportive of these actions (the student protests, etc.), but I don’t consider the teacher’s actions any less inflammatory than what Susan Sarandon said and did. In both cases, I’m fine with what they said and did, actually. But why are the very same people outraged by Sarandon (or celebrating her being cancelled) not outraged by this teacher?
The teacher went to a rally and held a sign that said, "I stand with Israel." How in the hell is this "inflammatory?" After they suffered a gruesome terrorist attack at the hand of savages, she stands with Israel. Sarandon, OTOH, made a tasteless, callous statement.
PP doesn't understand explicit antisemitism? This is what is so scary
People like you are the absolute worst. You can keep labeling benign statements and views “explicit anti-semitism” until the cows come home, but nobody outside your echo chamber will ever take you serious. Deeply thankful this Thanksgiving weekend not to have anyone in my life with your worldview.
Sarandon a) was suggesting that Jews did not suffer from anti-semitism before now and b) that she was glad Jews are now scared.
I don’t agree with A or B, but neither of those are things she said.
She said: “ There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence." This denies that Jews have been subject to antisemitism before today. That’s what it says. And it heavily implies she thinks it is a good thing Jews are learning this lesson of being afraid.
Personally, I would view that type of statement as “a little tone deaf and kinda insensitive” considering the groups involved and the current climate. I wouldn’t write someone off for that statement alone, until and unless it involved more explicit, inflammatory language. I just don’t find comfort is ascribing specific intent and implications, especially where I don’t see them. However, I’m not Jewish and I don’t have lived experience as a Jew (although contrary to the thought police here, I do have Jewish friends, including several close ones). Given that, I’ll acknowledge that condemnation from those affected by her statement(s) isn’t unreasonable. That’s as far as I can go. But I’ll add that the undergirding of my views never involves viewing all Israelis (and their supporters) as villains and all Palestinians (and their supporters) as saints, or vice versa. This IS a complex problem, but the status quo is no way to solve it.
DP. Good grief, the pretzel-twisting you’re engaging in is remarkable. Had she said something similar, but insert a group you feel kinship /empathy with (obviously not Jews), you’d be outraged. Face it: she said something offensive and off-base and the PP who explained exactly why it was offensive and off-base is correct. Sarandon is an absolute idiot.
There are a lot of people afraid of being American at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Russian in this country, so often subjected to violence. Yeah, nope. Nothing approaching outrage - at all. In fact, nothing. Completely benign statement. You’re a clown. Identifying yourself as DP literally matters not because you just follow the company line anyway. Censorship, shouting down anyone questioning the actions of the State of Israel as anti-Semitic, rinse and repeat. Again, you’re a clown.
