The commitment and dedication to even be at this level is so impressive. Being a committed D1 athlete, top 20 or top 100, is an honor very few girls get. And regardless of top 20 lax or not, they all need to get jobs. I am embarrassed as a parent and an adult that a young woman who has worked her butt off to get an offer to…let’s say Clemson, saw that adults had an opinion on her academic and lacrosse choice. I mean, it’s not a”good school”. Shame on you. And yes, the girls look at this site esp during lax season when parents do nothing but talk crap about their school, coach and sometimes players.
And for the record, Ivy's give plenty of $ to athletes. Yes, not athletic, but the academic money is there and you don’t have to have opened a school in Rwanda and have a 5.0GPA. So, money does flow.
Most ivys no longer give merit.
No athletic and no merit at Ivies.
Merit is offered at ivies but the income threshold is very low.
That is not merit. That is need based.
I think this is a good point. The need based thresold is low, we typically think of HHI over 150K not getting AID but this is not the case based on my knowledge at Ivys, someone can correct me if I am wrong.
Also, can someone clarify. If you make too much for need based, couldn't you just have your adult kid be responsible for $$, therefore you should meet the need based easily?
If it were that easy don’t you think EVERYONE would do that? I mean come on. Can’t argue with facts. Does not sound like any public school bias. Sounds like a bias toward great players.
Here are the facts: The one Virginia D1 school ranked higher than UVA, and with more recent success, is JMU. In recent years, it’s in state public school recruiting looks like this: Robinson 1, Riverside 1, Langley 2, Battlefield 1, Lake Braddock 1, Oakton 3, Woodson 1, Kettle Run 1, James Madison 1, Douglas Freeman 1. If these players were recruited to a perennial top 10 team that has a fairly recent national championship to its credit, you can’t credibly argue that UVA is equally active in looking for in state talent.

Anonymous wrote:UVA is an elite academic school and there are certainly some talented lax players who can’t get in.
Anonymous wrote:Well, if UVA was great at recruiting they probably wouldn’t be ranked way down at 18 in USA LAX’s Way Too Early rankings.

UVA’s recruiting under the previous coach was tilted heavily towards out of state private school players. Numerous public school standouts couldn’t even get the coaches to look at their video or respond to emails. Hopefully, the new regime will be better.
Of UVA's current 31-player roster nearly 20 are from public schools. Two of UVA's five in-state players are from VA public schools. No top 20 contender (short of UMD possibly for obvious reasons) sources the majority of players from public schools in their home state. Player skill, rather than a misperceived anti-public school bias, better explains why someone didn't get any UVA love.
