You seem to believe that if we do things "right" or "punish" people to the fullest extent for minor transgressions that it will prevent violence, but nothing could be further from the truth. People are not all bad, or all good. There is a vast continuum of behavior, so we can only occasionally predict outcome. I believe the more punitive we are, people lose hope. Before you jump on me about not charging people, I'm talking about reforming the criminal justice system to be rehabilitative.

Also, remember that everyone with a gun is a good guy, until they aren't. Do you want to take past accolades away from police officers and military who have shot their families?[/quote]
