I had a friend in college who's boyfriend had an Akita.  It never liked her.  It would nip at her and growl at her all the time.  One day she was standing at the top of the stairs, the dog backed up, charged her and pushed her down the staircase.

These are dogs that were bred to hunt bears.

I started watching Pitt Bulls and Parolees, and it started to change my mind on the breed.   The woman who rescues them is very responsible.  It's not like she defends every dog she ever comes across..she defends the ones that are closer to the standard.  I saw an episode where she suggested one be put down b/c he was aggressive and could not be changed.  Don't kill the dogs because of the breed. Neuter them, find the good ones good homes and try to help put an end to irresponsible breeding instead![/quote]
