For us should=not. FCPS didn’t even require them for graduations and all of those kids are not vaccinated. Who’s going to be policing the mask use at meets? Refs? Starter? Making sure we don’t sign up for those roles if we go against one of these annoying teams.
I’m not sure what you mean by the part in bold. The VDH has stressed that “should” does not mean the same as “must”, but they do recommend. The second part is up to the pool at which you are swimming. If you don’t want to sign up, don’t sign up. I have been to many NVSL pools over the past 12 years and there have been times their set up or rules are different from ours and we follow them. When I go to someone else’s house I abide by their rules.
I get it. What I’m saying is that unless it’s absolutely required, my children are not wearing masks this summer outside at the pool.
Our pool has announced that, at least for time trials this weekend, vaccinated volunteers do not need to mask but unvaccinated volunteers are encouraged to. The kids are asked to mask while hanging around on deck but can unmask to eat and when they leave the seating area to head to clerk of course. Of course, our pool deck is really small so even limiting to swimmers and volunteers (no parent spectators unless they're working the meet) doesn't really allow for social distancing. My 14 yo is absolutely fine with this; masking has never really bothered her and she still wears one to practice even though she doesn't have to, because many other swimmers (including her best friend) do.
