So they wear a mask to walk over to the team area, remove their masks before getting in the pool then spend all of swim practice congregating at one of the pool or even on the deck while getting instruction all without a mask. Then they are expected to put their mask on when they gather their stuff and leave that pool deck. At which point they go to other areas of the pool without masks and interact with all their other friends at the pool. It all makes zero sense.
I have not heard what will be required at time trials, but again parents hang out all the time at the pool without mask so requiring them at time trails seems silly.
Hey I am a team rep and we have a similar policy - the reason, is that we know some of the pools we swim against have very different rules. Although our pool really is acting like 2019 a number of pools are not. So we keep masks on the table so when we tell everyone we will all be wearing masks it isn't a shock. I don't like it, but that is the reason. We have already heard from several teams that they will be strict on masks.
We are doing the same for the same reason - we aren't really enforcing it but we are saying it.

Anonymous wrote:FCPS lifted mask mandate May 28 for outdoor events. So our HS graduation was outside in the football stadium. Announcements were made to follow CDC guidance for masks. If vaccinated, masks optional. If not vaccinated, masks encouraged. I would say it was 50/50 on mask use in the bleachers with no distancing. It was a happy and great day.
Swim meets can be the same.

Who’s going to be policing the mask use at meets? Refs? Starter? Making sure we don’t sign up for those roles if we go against one of these annoying teams.
I’m not sure what you mean by the part in bold. The VDH has stressed that “should” does not mean the same as “must”, but they do recommend.
The second part is up to the pool at which you are swimming. If you don’t want to sign up, don’t sign up. I have been to many NVSL pools over the past 12 years and there have been times their set up or rules are different from ours and we follow them. When I go to someone else’s house I abide by their rules.
I get it. What I’m saying is that unless it’s absolutely required, my children are not wearing masks this summer outside at the pool.

Those teams may also not allow spectators, so your choice might be to volunteer and wear a mask or stand in the parking lot and hope you get a glimpse through the fence. I know of at least two teams against whom we are swimming who have said limited or no spectators. This is not a normal summer. Better than last year but not normal.
Why? The governor lifted all distancing and capacity requirements.

Wasn’t this only for off-site graduations if the venue didn’t require it?
