We have a 6 billion dollar surplus and a AAA bond rating, something most states do not have. Yes, this isn't perfect, and I am likely not getting a vaccine for a couple of months at the earliest, but I am ok with it. I have the luxury of being able to work from home and ensure the safety of my family.
Stockholm Syndrome.
Totally. Given what we contribute we should have oh so much more, plus plenty to share around.
This is such a vague statement. Are you saying that: 1) We are a wealthy city, we should be able to buy all the vaccines we need because we have $$$$$? There should be plenty to go around, and this scarcity dynamic / zero sum game situation is simply a false dynamic that we should upend with our collective power and sense of the communal good. Or are you saying that: 2) People who live in priority zip codes don't deserve their fair share of vaccines, so why are we trying to make sure they get the appropriate amount of vaccines? The rich are the ones who give all the money that counts, so they should get all the resources they want first. Screw our middle class neighbors. They are losers. They are weak. They are worthless because they are worth less. 3) Or are you saying that because property values are somewhat higher west of the park only the wealthiest citizens' property tax, income, and sales tax count? The doors don't deserve the scraps we occasionally afford them? If it's 1) then gosh, you're right. We in the US have better access to vaccines right now than almost anyone else in the world (other than the British or the Israelis) so we should be thanking our lucky stars that vaccines are weeks away instead of years away like they would be if we lived in Canada or Peru. Yay us! We're so privileged and wealthy! Let's use some power to make sure the vaccines get to everyone as soon as possible. I have a feeling you're implying 2 or 3 though. Because you have a truly warped sense of your own value and worth as summed up by your wealth therefore you think others are simply expendable and perhaps deserve to die a painful, covid death (since they are black and / or living in areas with more COVID). Please tell me what your perspective and motive is. I'm truly curious.
Oh, sorry. I was saying that with a 6 million dollar surplus we should have an amazing city government for all of us. That we put up with a wide array of crappy services is indeed textbook stockholm syndrome.
