OP - no reason to be freaked out about this, but, if it makes you feel better, replace it. It won't cost "thousands and thousands of dollars." A new tub installed will be around a thousand bucks. They'll cut or break up the old one and carry it out in pieces. But again, I think you are worrying needlessly.
