DH works in an office that doesn't allow cell phones. He's also in a lab most days, so there's not a desk phone either. Which means I don't get to talk to him until he arrives home between 6-8pm. We talk a lot though! I would be annoyed if a coworker was taking personal calls all day, especially if I could overhear. I think you need to go outside to take calls like that.
One more time, I am not taking ANY personal calls during work hours, except for emergencies, which has only happened once when our 3 year old ended up at the ED. The calls happen on the way TO and FROM work.
I do use my Bluetooth to make phone calls on the way to/from work, but its usually to check in with my (retired) parents who live 1000 miles away, and to make appointments/discuss billing issues, etc. I like to basically work on work stuff at work; home stuff at home; and get as much of my admin stuff done while in transit. I live with my DH, we have several hours together every night, so I'd rather reach out to ppl I don't see everyday, or just get things off my to-do list. And if for some reason I don't have something to do, I like to listen to NPR. And while you may not talk on the phone at work, you said you chat or text throughout the day. I guess that's the norm these days, but it definitely adds up in terms of time.
