Provided that you transfer the baby to a crib at around 4 months, why shouldn't the Rock and Play be used for sleep?
+1. We did this for #2, and plan to for #3 in a few weeks. Once baby is big enough to move around a lot while sleeping (we use a sleep sack with swaddle wings at night for the first 3-4 months at least), we unswaddle and move to crib. No issues with first two (tho #1 was in crib from start-not near as nice as bedside to me!!) transitioning this way, I hope #3 follows n their footsteps!
I should also add the #2 had terrible reflux, and both our regular Ped and Ped GI said sleeping in rnp or car seat was fine so they were at an angle. She slept with a wedge for a year in her crib after we moved her. If you're against rnp, I'd go w co-sleeper since baby will be right there.
