Sounds strange, I know, but it absolutely works. I have NO more odor in my washer and NO more mold issues. I use pure copper wire to avoid any toxic alloys (alloys are other added metals) and remove the wire before running my dishes. I wouldn't recommend leaving the copper permanently in the washer as it is a heavy metal. The only drawback is remembering to remove and replace the wire each cycle, but that inconvenience doesn't come close to the hassle of having to dissemble the washer and bend over and clean it incessantly.
