The problem is that they simultaneously made the dishwashers more energy efficient (less heat) and took the phosphates out of dish soap. It you want a cheaper solution, buy a box of tsp at the hardware store and put a half a tablespoon in each wash.

I did this with a GE PRofile that has "SmartDispense" that has the soap container inside the door and now it is all gunked up and does not work.

so common problem, GE says it is about $280 to come out and replace the dishwasher soap container. The enzymes reacts with the bleach and makes a solid chunk of craop that blocks the soap line in the Smart Dispense container.

Be careful about adding bleach.

You'll probably think I'm crazy when I tell you this, but it's completely true. We bought a new house (new to us anyway) and it had a Bosch dishwasher in it. We were incredibly impressed with the cleaning power of the dishwasher, but like many people have commented... it started to stink, even when it was clean and didn't have dirty dishes loaded in it. I did the usual stuff, like checking the hose mounting locations and running vinegar through it. Basically, everything a rational person would do to resolve the issue. Nothing worked. Here's the part you aren't going to believe... if you want to solve the problem, after you are done taking the dishes out of the racks after it is run WIPE ALL THE WATER OFF OF THE DOOR BEFORE CLOSING IT!!! DO NOT lift the door and let that water go back down into the dishwasher. We started doing this and the smell has been gone ever since. Crazy as it seems, it's totally true. I don't know if this will work for you like it did us, but it's definitely worth a try. Best of luck to all the fellow Bosch dishwasher owners out there. Eric.

You actually need to remove the drain --very easy--and clean it with a scrub brush if you have food particles stick in there.

Stinky Bosch owner here - so with the copper wire, are you saying you put in the water reservoir after unloading, then remove before your next wash cycle starts?

Sounds like there is crap somewhere in the system. Start taking it apart and clean it up. Start with the door then take apart the pump and hoses. Check Youtube because someone else has already done it.

I've had numerous dishwashers over the years. I now have an energy efficient model and it began to stink and grow something really weird in the drainage area. I cleaned it a number of times, thoroughly, and had a plumber check the install and air vent, and couldn't pinpoint any problem. I began to scour the web for a solution - outside of vinegar, bleach, etc. I came across an interesting bit of info about copper. Apparently, copper kills mold, bacteria, even viruses, and the article I read suggested using it in the dishwasher to prevent mold growth and bad odors probably caused by bacteria. I'm a jeweler, so I happened to have some pure copper wire laying around. I took a piece of the copper and placed it in the bottom of the tub so that it made contact with the standing water in the drainage area (standing water down in drain is normal and is there to keep seals wet). Sounds strange, I know, but it absolutely works. I have NO more odor in my washer and NO more mold issues. I use pure copper wire to avoid any toxic alloys (alloys are other added metals) and remove the wire before running my dishes. I wouldn't recommend leaving the copper permanently in the washer as it is a heavy metal. The only drawback is remembering to remove and replace the wire each cycle, but that inconvenience doesn't come close to the hassle of having to dissemble the washer and bend over and clean it incessantly.

I've heard this has something to do with installation and dirty water and food pooling in the tubing. We've had this problem since our new dishwasher was installed and we need to get someone back out to look at it. It's disgusting and smells like rotten food even though we rinse our dishes pretty thoroughly before putting them in the washer.

I just bought a Bosch dishwasher last month. Consumer reports rates it high! My dishwasher stinks after every wash and its brand new!!! I have read over 100 different reviews about this problem! No one has a fix for this problem! Everything was installed correctly! I complained to Bosch and they had no answer! I talked to a lady who said you should use the dishwasher everyday! Are you kidding me!! Good luck people I hope someone can find a fix, but it doesn't sound like that's gonna happen!! I will never buy a BOSCH anything again!! Next I am going to give consumer reports a piece of my mind also!! Good luck to you all.... John
