My response will do nothing to elevate this discussion, and I'll apologize for giving in to the impulse to post my gut response and must qualify that I don't entirely believe what I'm posting, but it certainly does feel like Europeans often chortle with glee whenever they can find a way to frame Jews as aggressors. It diminishes their own guilt. [/quote]

Agreed. I've been following the issue of rising anti-Semitism in Europe since 2011 as I've researched materials for a literature course involving a book on the Holocaust experience. This UCLA incident - students' behavior and the administration's response - worries me. I think it should worry everyone. We need to take steps to address this proactively. If we don't, we know how this ends.[/quote]
