What a bunch of tightwads you are all. Poor kids shouldn't get presents Teachers don't deserve a gift over $20 Got it.
Teachers are not legally allowed to accept a gift over $20. That has nothing to do with what they do or don't deserve. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/bbb.pdf
Well I have given every one of my kid's teachers min $50 gift card/gift for winter and end of year and no one ever returns it. I also give my mailman, trashmen, hair dresser etc... big holiday tips. Do they have a minimum? What a stupid policy.
As an educator, I find it highly offensive that you feel you should "tip" me. I'm not your "help". I am a professional, and I have several years' experience, so I make close to six figures for 10 months of work. I deserve that, and I'm compensated for my work. I am not a service professional, like a hairdresser, who does not make a salary. I probably have better health insurance than you do. I don't need your "tip".
Wow, you are a total and complete bitch. Hope my kid never has you for a teacher so you can roll their eyes at their gifts. Every year we make candies together, fill a mason jar, write a thank you note and attach a $25 Starbucks gift card. I will make sure I don't do that now. Didn't realize it offended. Wow, I am just shocked.
I wouldn't have used the same wording as the teacher PP, but I get her point. I don't need a holiday gift either. My daughter, who's 10, will give a gift to her teacher b/c she wants to. But as an adult, I don't involve myself. I'd rather get a thank you card, and while I love coffee, I can pay for my drinks. In fact, I do every morning. Teachers in MCPS receive good salaries. My husband, also a teacher, makes about $10K more than I do. We're in the low $200,000s. I hardly see that as being poor. So gifts should be given by children - not by parents. I'm in a service profession - but with three degrees. So I don't really need coffee from Mommy or Daddy.
