Teachers are not legally allowed to accept a gift over $20. That has nothing to do with what they do or don't deserve.

Well I have given every one of my kid's teachers min $50 gift card/gift for winter and end of year and no one ever returns it.   I also give my mailman, trashmen, hair dresser etc... big holiday tips.  Do they have a minimum?  What a stupid policy.  [/quote]

As an educator, I find it highly offensive that you feel you should "tip" me.  I'm not your "help".  I am a professional, and I have several years' experience, so I make close to six figures for 10 months of work.  I deserve that, and I'm compensated for my work.  I am not a service professional, like a hairdresser, who does not make a salary.  I probably have better health insurance than you do.  I don't need your "tip".  [/quote]

Wow, you are a total and complete bitch.  Hope my kid never has you for a teacher so you can roll their eyes at their gifts.  Every year we make candies together, fill a mason jar,  write a thank you note and attach a $25 Starbucks gift card.   I will make sure I don't do that now.  Didn't realize it offended.  Wow, I am just shocked.

I wasn't the PP and you or her were talking about. But anyway,  the PP also mentioned she gives $50 gift cards, not a tip to her .  She compared the policy to others you would give gifts and or tips around this time of the year. Do they have a policy?  And hate to break it to you.  Many mail carriers, hair dressers and garbage collectors get paid more than a teacher.  All the reason why I like to give the $25 Starbucks gift cards.  My thought is every little bit helps.  For a teacher to come on here and talk that way like she is some high class snob (making near 6 figures) and doesn't like gifts from students.  That is so far off-base and unsettling.  [/quote]
