About time! Odds are this one will fail miserably but create interest and incite more. Subsequent lawsuits will be successful. There should not be any quotas based on ethnicity nor should there be legacy, development or athletic preferences.
Why shouldn't colleges give preference to legacy, development, or athletic applicants? Should they also not give preference to the oboe or tuba player they need? Top schools want a diverse group of students, in every sense of the word. These schools want a vibrant group of student who bring a plethora of skills and talents to the table. They know students learn from each other as much as they do from professors in the classroom. Meeting and getting to know and respect people who are very different from yourself is a fundamental part of the college years and has effects far into one's adult life; admissions offices want to put together an entering class that will enrich the experience of all the students.
