At my D's camp today apparently a mother left in tears at pickup when a bunch of people were condemning Israel..(she is Israeli I think).....so we got a huge email from the camp director asking everyone to be sensitive but the crowd at this camp is NOT that way. They are NOT at all the kind to be pro Israeli and not afraid to be vocal about it. People are disgusted and rightfully so. It is shameful.
How old are these children? I think that it is clear where I stand (let me know if you are confused and I'll be more forthright), but I think it is terrible to turn this into an issue between children. Children above all should be taught tolerance and respect for differing views.
Agreed Jeff, but the PP said it was the mother who left in tears, right, not the kid ? The kid may have not been in ear shot. I'm not sure I identify with an American crying because someone is being critical of Israel and I know lots of Israeli's and can pretty much guarantee they would not cry. Make a wise crack, maybe. Ball everyone out maybe. Cry, no. As an American who has lived in the Middle East, I'm used to having my country severely condemned . I've had amputated limbs extended for me to " face up to". Grown men have told their stories to me through an anger that almost had them in tears. All the while they were poring me more tea, of course and being very respectful as is their tradition but I don't think I ever wanted to cry. I was embarrassed. I was indignat for them . I apologized, but I didn't cry. Sorry, I dont buy it.
