It's a bit much to expect someone to explain the entire Israel-Palestine conflict in a DCUM post. Here is a good starting point that has been discussed in another thread:

Current attempts to achieve peace have concentrated on a two-state solution in which Israel would keep most of the the land within its pre-1967 borders and the Palestinians would get the West Bank and Gaza. However, there is not a consensus within Israel for such a plan because of a desire to hold on to the Palestinian territories. Similarly, there is not complete support for a two-state solution among Palestinians, though there is probably enough support to achieve such a solution. In addition, by encouraging settlement activity, Israel is creating facts on the ground which make giving up the West Bank even more difficult. The Oslo Agreement was meant to lead to such a two-state solution, but was never implemented. Both sides blame the other for the failure of implementation.
