I am an SWS parent of two (PK4 and 1st) and I do not know a single parent here -- not a single one -- who is in favor of proximity preference. Maybe it's because we're already in and we no longer care, but I think for the most part we understand that it's not good for the community at large, and everyone thinks the one guy agitating for it is pretty annoying.
Here is a direct quote from the position paper created by the SWS LSAT based on a working group and a survey of parents 2. Proximity ? A majority of the parent community surveyed supports some form of proximity preference for admissions through the DCPS lottery (~65% favored some proximity, split at ~30% for those preferring 3000 feet and ~33% for immediate neighbors). These results show, however that there is no clear consensus on what that preference should look like. Moreover, the survey questions were limited and did not provide the full array of options available.
