I have to say that having grown up here in DC, Landon has never had a strong reputation. It was always a school where wealthy families could send their sons, who would otherwise not have a chance at any of the better top tier DC schools (i.e. STA and Sidwell.) I believe it's an easy school to get into, and I think many families are happy there.
Fascinating. On the one hand you're putting Landon in the top tier (where it has been in DC for a very long time), and on the other you're disparaging it. I'd hate to see what you have to say about all of the non-top tier schools and the kids who go there. When I was growing up in DC Landon and St. Albans considered each other rivals, with Prep up and coming. Sidwell was considered a good school, but one that was a little less traditional in its methods and focused on kids who were exceptional at one thing, while the other IAC schools tended to have more well-rounded students. I knew some legacies at St. Albans who definitely fit the profile you just described, and some at Landon, Prep and Sidwell, too. Most of the kids who the PP would describe as "punks" ended up at boarding school, and when they came home for holidays you realized how nice life was when they weren't around. Perhaps that has changed.
