Poster who suggested Dunn Loring here. Vienna isn't unfriendly but it's pretty family-oriented and not what I would recommend for someone who wants a little action. I wouldn't live in Tysons either; not much there. Falls Church City is another good suggestion - some good restuarants and bars on the downtown (route 7) strip.

But check out Dunn Loring first IMO. It is certainly not dangerous; I hope the other poster was kidding. The new places are expensive but you can find more reasonably priced condos that aren't brand new. The area has exploded. I know some people on DCUM mock the Mosiac District but it's very nice and new things are popping up all the time. A Harris Teeter is going in right by the metro. No one who lived there 10+ years ago could have dreamed that Dunn Loring/Merrifield would look like what it does today.[/quote]
