All you have to do is look at the difference in the sentences for powder cocaine versus the same weight of baked cocaine. Anyone caught in possession of powder cocaine receive a much lighter sentence than someone with the same volume of crack cocaine. Powder cocaine is/was the drug of choice of affluent whites (I've been to enough parties populated by accountants and lawyers). Crack cocaine is/was the drug of choice for poor blacks. The sentencing guidelines are much harsher for crack cocaine, leading to years in felony prison. Whereas in some jurisdictions, powder coke is a misdemeanor. [/quote]
