Parents and families just don’t want to play for these big clubs where their kids just become numbers. Before you had to play for certain clubs to be noticed. There’s more of a focus of local teams who are killing it in the A Bracket and growing together. Talent is coming to them. They don’t feel the need to go to M&D or Hero’s. It would be a step down. At least in 2033 & 2034.
M&D and Heros are local teams, and the idea that Coppermine is not a part of the “machine” is laughable. Every year has their handful of “best” teams, but bottom line is that by high school, M&D and Heros are always near the top, year after year. Other top teams might be some assortment of teams like MDU, Skywalkers, Capital, or Coppermine but, sorry to say, never HoCo. What is happening in the current 2033 and 2034 years is not unique or predictive of a new trend.
There is a lot more talent in the area now than in Years past, that is not to say Heros / M&D won't end up at the top again, but as the talent pool widens you get a lot more parity. You can see this happening in soccer. When the talent pool widens you also allow better coaches to stand out. I think we have all seen a team so loaded with talent before that any dufus could coach them to a title. BTW, M&D is owned by a Private Equity firm, but only for the past 3 or so years, MDU and Coppermine are also owned by large for-profit "businesses" - i wouldn't place Hero's in this category or Skywalkers, but I do think there is a pushback to not join some of these money grabbing For Profit Entities.
M&D and Coppermine cost the same, if not less, than many/most local clubs. There is nothing more money grabbing about these clubs than any other youth club, with possibly a few small exceptions. The idea that people en mass won’t join a top club with good access to resources and, in M&Ds case, an amazing recruiting track record - that continues to maintain a locally owned feel - simply because it’s owned by a for-profit entity is just not realistic.
