No, when any college send out offers, they already take yield rate into consideration. That’s what waiting list for.
Thank you, I still have the question; what do they do if there are not enough students taking theses spots as UMD doesn't have a waitlist. Do they look into denied applicants who had good applications but there was no space for them?
This has not been a concern at UMD for years: Applications: Fall 2023:59,499 Fall 2024: 60,147 Fall 2025: 67,178 Number Admitted: Fall 2023: 26,750 Fall 2024: 26,994 Fall 2025: 30,282 Number Enrolled: Fall 2023: 6,170 Fall 2024: 5,812 Fall 2025: 6,544 UMD predicts yield—the percentage of admitted students who enroll—by analyzing historical enrollment data, tracking "demonstrated interest" (campus visits, email engagement, early applications), and using predictive modeling to estimate student commitment. They do a pretty good analysis of the number of students they believe will enroll, even with summer melt (students who hear from their waitlisted options) UMD hasn't in the recent past ever gone back to denied applicants. You can request a re-read of a denied admission decision through a formal appeal process, but they rarely change the initial outcome. Appeals require new and significant academic information.
