Another factor is how many total seats.  A school with only one class per grade may not get quite as far in their waitlist as a school with several classes per grade.

And as others have mentioned, there are some schools whose IB students may have gotten in somewhere else that they preferenced higher, thus giving the impression that IB students were unable to get in.  I also don't know if there's a public database on that - it might require looking at individual student data by their lottery number, and seeing if IB students had gotten in at another school higher on their list.

At many open houses the year we looked, the principals had anywhere between a vague and a very specific idea of their own initial and eventual lottery results.  It doesn't hurt to ask if there's a school you're really interested in and you're trying to make sense of your list![/quote]
